By Anthony Cole

Basically, a hydro massage is a water based therapy that utilizes high pressure water jets to perform the massage on the skin and trigger circulation. This form of massage is usually powerful compared to whirlpool bath or a Jacuzzi and the water is usually much hotter. However, hydromassage therapy is usually more of a treatment than just an experience.

Usually, this form of massage is usually a great satisfying treatment and you can feel it while having the massage. Usually, the rigorous underwater massage, with the powerful jets usually stimulate blood circulation as well as causing the lymph and the blood to move around the body. The heat in the water usually cleanses and opens the skin pores making the skin to appear and feel cleansed, invigorated, and refreshed.

Hydromassage not only helps one to relax but also it alienates muscle and joint pains that one may have. In as much as the massage makes one feel worn out after, research findings show that it makes one fall into a deep relaxed sleep since the temperature of the body declines. Therefore a hydromassage would be essential and better for one to undergo before they go to sleep as it helps facilitate sleep at night.

Hydromassage is however not appropriate and recommended for pregnant women or young and old people. This is due to the fact that the water used may be too hot and the massage too intense. In addition, it is not appropriate for individuals with an injury or have undergone a surgery before.

On the other hand, it is important to seek advice from a therapist if you have acute or severe joint or muscular injuries. Again, you need to seek some advice from a therapist in case you have a medical condition or you a receiving some medication or treatment. Also, if you are suffering from heart problems or high blood pressure, you need to consult a therapist before having the massage.

Generally, the effect of a hydromassage session begin to be felt even within 5 minutes. However, it is important for the massage session to last about 10 minutes or more in order to loosen your muscles, allow you to relax, and increase circulation. After the first session, you are able to gauge the length of time you prefer for the water massage. Nevertheless, an ideal session should last between 15 to 30 minutes.

This type of massage comes with various advantages. For one it helps to relieve stress as the massage not only eases mental tension but also physical tension. This is due to secretion of stress relieving hormones like cortisol that get secreted when you immerse your body in warm water.

Another benefit is that this massage therapy improves sleep. Because of this, you can promote restful sleep or reduce insomnia. This is because the internal body temperature increases during the hydrotherapy and then drops later. As the internal temperature drops, the body become ready for sleep. Sleep may also be improved since pressure on the muscles and the joint is relieved. At the same time, this massage helps to minimize chronic pain due to fibromyalgia, arthritis and other conditions.
